As with most military organizations, there were other demands on a
Border Guards time in addition to normal patrol activities. Perhaps
the most constant additional duty performed in any army throughout
history has been guard duty. The Grenztruppen were no different. The
company level schedules below show the times and manpower requirements
for the posting of the guards. Duty personnel wore red armbands with
white letters that designated their position of authority.
