This was a pass that permitted people access into the border zone. the persons name was entered as well as the residence he was visiting. Note the Grenztruppen stamp. This particular pass was used for training by the Grenztruppen school. The red letters state "Only for Training Purposes".

This page from an identity card was also used for training purposes by the Grenztruppen. The top paragraph identies the area of residence within the "5km Sperrzone" as Halberstadt. Note the stamps of the Grenztruppen and the Peoples Police. They were the approving authority for visitors and the right to live within the restricted area
