Cav 1957 - 1964

In 1957 the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment took over the border mission along the Czechoslovakian border from the 6th ACR.  The Regiment was headquartered in Staubling with the 1st Squadron, while the 2d and 3rd Squadrons were located in Landhut and Regensburg respectively. Additionally, the Regiment maintained border camps near their area of border operations. In 1964 the Regiment returned to the states and the border mission was assumed by 2nd Squadron of the 3rd ACR.

The following, rare pictures  during this time are from former Blackhorse troopers who served during this period. Bob Thomas, who arrived in the Regiment in 1959, provided these photographs from his web site.

Troopers prepare to leave on railroad car as they head for the port of Bremenhaven. Since the Regiment did not leave Germany until 1964, this must have been some other type of rotation. - Gary Lopenzina
